Running Rescue

A running-focused rehab and strength 1-on-1 coaching experience with a Doctor of Physical Therapy for the repeat-niggle runner looking to go beyond symptom relief and return to full training volume so they can feel strong on race day.

Running Rescue is for the runner...

who has tried traditional PT or attempted to self-manage a recurring injury for greater than 2+ months but isn’t back to running at their desired volume or intensity.

They're tired of the same recurring niggle and want a running-specific rehab and strength program that helps them return to running workouts and racing at full intensity.

Too many runners have said “I tried traditional PT, but it didn’t work”. Or “I see my physical therapist every training cycle because this one niggle comes back”.

I’ve worked the traditional PT job. I’ve had these runners come see me. And I never had enough time.

Traditional physical therapy came with a set of handcuffs, applied by insurance, limiting “how much better” you could get before you were kicked out because “you’re good enough”.

The problem? “Good enough” is NOT the same as “ready to train for your next marathon”. That’s where Running Rescue comes in.

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a runner of 15+ years, I understand the entire process your body has to go through from Day 1 of injury to getting you ready for race day. And it’s not a 3x a week for 4 weeks process.

Running Rescue is deliberately designed to address current and repeat niggles, while keeping you running, and progressing you through running-specific rehab into strength and performance exercises.

Because rehab and strength training for runners is more than banded clamshells, glute walks, and bird dogs.

Inside of Running Rescue, you will be provided running-specific exercises that meet your exact needs as a runner.

If body weight calf raises and planks were enough, you wouldn’t be here reading this right now.

This is your sign to join Running Rescue.

Not sure if it’s the right fit for you?

Feel free to email or send me a message on Instagram. We can discuss together whether this is the right direction for you. Not to worry: I will always refer you back to your primary care physician or formal PT if that's the correct course for you.

What it's like to work with Dr. Whitt

"I first found Dr. Marie on Instagram, but we really started interacting on Threads. I was dealing with knee pain and swelling, along with some old, nagging injuries, and I wanted to be able to keep running, but smartly.

After a long, steep downhill run, my knees swelled up and continued to swell whenever I ran. I was nervous I had messed them up.

I had worked with PTs in the past and believed in the service, but it was important to me to work with a PT who knows runners, or better yet, is a runner. I had interacted with Marie on Threads and followed her Instagram content, which is great! I knew we would work well together. She not only knows her stuff, but she "gets it."

Before Running Rescue, my strength training had become spotty around my running. I was doing a lot of yoga and training for multiple races, and I was afraid of getting too sore to run or having strength training interfere with my runs. At the same time, I knew I needed strength training for better performance and longevity.

Marie's strength program not only supported my running schedule, but running became so much easier. I got stronger, and I could feel it in my runs. My knees no longer swell or get achy when I run, and I have a lot more stability and balance in single-leg movements now. Not to mention, you can bounce a quarter off my ass. :)

I'm getting faster, and my endurance has improved a lot. While part of that is from consistent running, I know a part of it is due to my increased strength.

But really, do it and with work Marie! She really knows her stuff and makes so much of her strength programs running-specific, like being in a runner's lunge for step-downs. Everything is specifically designed to support your runs."

What can you expect inside of Running Rescue?

Running Rescue is a 3-month commitment that combines three high-touch 1:1 Assessment and Checkpoint calls (45mins) with individualized workouts and ongoing coaching and accountability support designed to fit into your busy schedule.

Each month, I will walk you through one of the steps in my 3 Step Running Rescue Method and use my Functional Running Assessment to gauge your progress, ensuring we stay on track.

Step 1: Assess + Build Your Plan

  • Our Running Assessment Call (45mins) kicks off Week 1. We dive into your injury and running history, current niggles, mileage and training demands, and everything you've tried before, piecing together what has worked, and what hasn't.

  • I'll take you through my Functional Running Assessment to assess mobility, strength, and neuromotor deficits that may be contributing to your current issue or limiting your return to full training.

  • I'll build your individualized exercise program, combining running-specific rehab with strength and performance-based training to address your current issue, preparing your body for the demands of running.

  • You'll complete your prescribed workouts independently and check in with me at least biweekly through the training app. Together, we'll monitor your progress, symptoms, exercise tolerance, and adjust your plan as needed.

Step 2: Reassess + Progress

  • At the start of Week 5, we meet for our Checkpoint Call (45 mins)

  • We'll repeat relevant portions of your Assessment Call, pulling from the Functional Running Assessment to assess your progress, acting as a check up. This helps determine what areas still require attention. I'll also have you demonstrate key exercises so I can provide real-time feedback, corrections, and cues to make sure you're performing them effectively.

  • This is also your time to bring your questions. We can talk through how your runs are feeling, questions about your exercises, or that "What does this achy soreness mean?" moment that inevitably comes up when you're returning to training.

  • Based on your progress, we'll continue or progress your program so you're always working at the right intensity level for your body.

Step 3: Restore + Run

  • Beginning Week 9, we have our final Checkpoint call (45 mins), checking and assessing your progress, discussing any lingering aches, discomfort, or limitations.

  • If needed, we'll take a more targeted approach to address what's still holding you back. We'll also continue progressing you out of rehab and into running-specific strength training (including heavier lifting and plyometrics) to rebuild both muscle and tendon strength, mobility, tissue capacity, and endurance required to handle your full training load.

  • Throughout these final four weeks, we'll continue biweekly DM check-ins as you work toward returning to your previous running intensity and mileage with confidence.

  • By the end of our time together, you may be ready to continue independently with a custom program exercises to maintain your progress, OR we may decide together that an additional month of coaching is the right move to fully restore your running mileage and capacity.

What Exactly is Included?

The Assessment Call + Functional Running Assessment ($400)

  • Get to the bottom of why this injury keeps happening with an in-depth review of your running and injury history plus my Functional Running Assessment. With this information, we’ll be able to craft an exercise program to meet your exact needs.

2 Checkpoint Calls ($300)

  • 2 thorough virtual check-in calls with expert reassessment and course correction throughout your 3 months so we're not blindly following a rehab plan while you hope it works. We'll objectively track and measure your progress, answer your questions, address anything still holding you back, and confidently progress you toward full training.

Your Individualized Rehab + Strength Program ($400)

  • Together we’ll create an individualized rehab, mobility, plus progressive running-specific strength training program designed to address your specific issue so you know exactly what your body needs to get better and get back to running

  • Never wonder "Should I keep pushing or back off?". I provide ongoing guidance as you run, train, and work through your program so we can respond to how your body is actually tolerating the work and keep you moving forward. (I typically answer messages within 24-48 hours.)

Personalized Exercise Form Checks ($200)

  • Send me videos right inside the app of an exercise you’re struggling with and I’ll provide personalized feedback and corrections so you can perform each exercise effectively and target the tissues we're trying to strengthen.

What You Can Expect from Running Rescue

After completing Running Rescue...

You will finally understand the multiple factors contributing to your injury or recurring niggle and why it happened in the first place so you're not stuck wondering, "Why did this happen to me? I increased my mileage slowly and did everything right."

You will leave with a personalized set of 5–10 exercises to maintain the strength, endurance, mobility, and tissue capacity you’ve built so when our time together ends, you aren't left wondering, "Okay, but what do I do now?"

You'll return to your full running volume and intensity (or have a clear, personalized roadmap to get there) so you can get back to training, stay on track toward your goals, and finally stop letting the same issue derail your run.

Who it's for:

  • The runner who has tried traditional physical therapy in the past in the last few years, but results have been mixed because it never truly "sticks"

  • The runner who has struggled with the same on/off niggles for 3-6+ months that’s slowing you down, but you haven’t yet had to stop training altogether

  • The runner who has tried to manage their repeat injuries with YouTube exercises with lackluster results

  • The runner who has previously bought “do-it-yourself” rehab programs that are now collecting digital dust

  • The runner who is self-motivated, thrives with a coach to hold them accountable, and isn’t afraid of moving beyond the rehab basics of clamshells, bird dogs, glute bridges, and banded lateral glute walks.

Who it's NOT for:

  • If you’re a runner who feels you only get better with manual physical therapy treatment (calf massages, a physical therapist stretching your hip flexors or hamstrings for you, etc) this is not for you.

  • If you have been recently diagnosed with a stress fracture, “bone bruise”, bone stress injury, or any type of bone apophysitis, you may want to consider in-person physical therapy so that the treating clinician stays in formal contact with the referring physician.

  • If you need the accountability of physically going to PT, virtual accountability may not be “enough” for you to build the results you’re looking for.

  • If you’re looking for insurance “to pay for everything”, this will most likely not be the right fit. Just know: often, traditional insurance PT may cost YOU more due to the accumulation of 2-3x weekly co-pays and delayed insurance billing.
